Camille Boeckmans - Painter, Sculptor

Camille Boeckmans was born in Brussels, Belgium. After art studies at the Institute de Bishoffsheim of the same city, she pursues a different career at the Belgian Ministry of Defense, followed by 7 years as a diplomat at the Belgian embassy in Washington. During those years Camille continues to work art as a hobby - first as an illustrator then specializing in painting on silk. She continues to take more classes in drawing and painting. Several first exhibits of her work in Washington encouraged Camille not give up on her hobby. In 1997 Camille resigned from diplomatic services and moved to Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. She is deeply impressed and motivated by Mexico's colorful and spiritual ambiance and continues to paint and to exhibit her work in the area, especially paintings on silk. In 2013, she starts working in a more permanent fashion in the studio of Rainer, a local Sculptor, to diversify into pencil drawing, furniture design and relief. Her work is very contemporary, at times abstract, sometimes surrealistic, but always elegant and turned to the most exacting detail of what she wants to express. Especially her first designs for very unconventional cocktail tables show that this artist has, not only great talent to express form + function - the very definition of good Design - but also a sound approach to the more utilitarian aspects of art.
